As
many as 249 D.ED colleges in Maharashtra were found to be illegal by a
Supreme Court- appointed committee, Legislative Council was informed
today.
School Education Minister Rajendra Darda, in reply to a
question in the Upper House, said the issue of illegal D.ED colleges
came to light in September this year.
A total of 304 D.ED
colleges were opened without taking permission from the State Government
or the consent of National Council for Teachers Education (NCET), he
said.After verification, the SC-appointed panel declared 249 of them as
illegal, Darda said, replying to a query from Jaiprakash Chhajed
(Congress).
About action against these institutes, Darda said
“since the matter is pending before the Supreme Court the State
Government is awaiting the court''s directive”.
